Galley Equipment

Manufactured by Samjoo Engineering Visit sam-joo.co.kr

Samjoo Engineering builds marine galley and laundry equipment in Korea, and Aqua Logistics supplies it here. The range covers a whole galley — cooking, refrigeration, preparation, drinks, dishwashing, the extract hood and the fire suppression that goes with it — plus the ship’s laundry, so a newbuild or a refit can be packaged from one maker on one drawing set.

Cooking and heating

Samjoo electric galley equipment
Electric range with oven, electric soup kettle, electric frier and electric bain marie.

The electric line is the standard fit: electric range with oven, soup kettle, frier, bain marie, tilting frying pan, griddle and hot plates in one- and two-ring versions. Ovens run from a plain baking oven up to a steam convection combi-oven for a galley feeding a large crew.

Induction cooking

Samjoo induction cooking equipment
Induction high range, induction soup range, induction rice cooker and induction soup / frying / roasting kettle.

Induction is the part of the range worth a second look on a ship, because the arguments for it are mostly about the space around the cooker rather than the cooker itself.

  • Nothing burns. No carbon monoxide, no oxygen consumed by combustion, so galley air stays clean, and the risk of a cooker fire drops.
  • The galley stays cooler. Samjoo quotes a drop of around 10 °C in average galley temperature, which matters in the tropics. Oil disperses less, so the extract stays cleaner too.
  • Efficiency above 90% — roughly twice a gas stove — and no gas piping to install.
  • A ceramic glass top that wipes clean, with the heat generated in the pot rather than under it.

Available as portable, low and high ranges, a multi-burner soup range, fryer, rice cooker, and soup, frying and roasting kettles.

Refrigeration and cold storage

Samjoo reach-in cold storage for ships
Cold storage for ships with reach-in system, in 500, 1000 and 1500 litre sizes.

Cold storage for ships with a reach-in system comes in 500, 1000 and 1500 litre cabinets. Below that there are four mini refrigerators for cabins and offices — SJ-47R, SJ-75R, SJ-125R and SJ-212R — and an ice cube maker for the galley.

Samjoo also builds a dedicated thawing cabinet in two sizes, Tina 180 and Tina 1200. It thaws to a set temperature and then switches itself to fridge mode, holds the food surface below 5 °C throughout so the process stays inside HACCP rules, and cuts thawing time by up to 90% against ambient thawing — with less drip loss than a sink full of water.

Preparation, drinks and dishwashing

Samjoo galley preparation equipment
Potato peeler, meat saw, ham slicer and electric dough mixer.

Preparation. Potato peeler, meat saw, ham slicer, electric mixer, dough mixer, meat grinder and toaster.

Drinks. Water fountain, electric water boiler, espresso machine and filter coffee maker.

Dishwashing and waste. Undercounter and hood-type dish washers, a sink-mounted food waste disposer, and a garbage compactor for the accommodation.

Galley hood

USPHS galley hood cutaway
The USPHS galley hood: supply and exhaust ducts, UV sterilise system, water washing piping, mesh and baffle filters, integral lighting and a test switch.

The USPHS galley hood is an extract hood built to United States Public Health Service sanitation practice, and it does rather more than pull air:

  • Baffle and mesh filters take out grease and smoke before the air reaches the duct, which is what keeps odour and re-entrained exhaust under control.
  • UV / ozone lamp in the plenum, to cut the grease build-up that starts duct fires.
  • Water washing piping built in, so the filters and plenum can be washed down in place.
  • Air-accumulating spray system — pushing heated steam, oil and water back through the filter reduces the air volume, and Samjoo puts the energy saving at 20–30%.
  • Ceiling air conditioning, lighting and a test switch integrated into the hood body, with ventilation volume controlled down during non-cooking hours.

Galley fire extinguishing

Galley fire extinguishing system schematic
The wet chemical system: detection at the appliances, nitrogen cartridge and control box, spray nozzles in the hood, and a manual pull station.

The galley is where most accommodation fires start, and the hood is where they spread. Samjoo’s system sits in the hood and covers the appliances underneath it, with the exhaust duct built to SOLAS 1974/2000.

Automatic releaseA fusible link parts in the heat, releasing the wire → the high-pressure nitrogen cartridge opens → extinguishing chemical is injected and sprayed over the appliances through the hood nozzles.
Manual releasePull down the pull station — the same sequence follows from the nitrogen cartridge onward.
DetectionFusible link, plus primary and back-up thermostats at the appliances
AlarmsSeparate alarm bells for the galley hood and for the cooking equipment
Control box220 V, 60 Hz, single phase
MarksUL, NSF and CE

Approvals are listed as product marks. Class certificates for a specific vessel are arranged per project — tell us the class and flag with the enquiry.

Laundry

Samjoo marine laundry equipment
Washer and dryer, marine type washer/dryer, and commercial-scale washer and dryer.

The laundry side runs from a domestic-scale washer and dryer or a stacked washer/dryer for a small crew, through a purpose-built marine type washer/dryer, up to commercial washers and dryers for a large complement or an offshore accommodation unit.

Working with us

We supply the Samjoo range from Singapore and hold spares for the items that get used hardest. Installation is by the yard or your own contractor — we do not fit the equipment ourselves. Send the crew number, the galley layout and the power available, and we will put together an equipment schedule.

Tell us what the vessel needs.

Send drawings, specifications or a parts list and we will come back with availability and pricing.
