Level Gauges

Manufactured by Hanla IMS Visit hanlaims.com

Six families of direct-reading tank gauge from Hanla IMS — reflex and tubular glass columns built to the SOLAS amendments, JIS marine float gauges, magnetic flag indicators, self-powered content gauges and dial float gauges. Sight-glass columns run to 5,100 mm centre to centre; content gauges cover tank depths from 1 to 12 m.

Flat type glass level gauge

RLG-LP and RLG-HP flat type glass level gauges with installation arrangement
RLG-LP and RLG-HP series, and the standard installation arrangement

Model: RLG series. Toughened borosilicate glass housed in a stainless steel column. Reflex viewing windows give a clear reading even on colourless liquids. The gauges are built to the requirements of the SOLAS 1981, 1983, 1996, 1997 and 1998 amendments, and the construction is accepted by the marine classification societies. Patented design, patent no. 015089.

On the LP series the liquid chambers can be cleaned with the gauge still mounted on the tank, and the isolating valves allow the column to be removed without draining the tank. Used on water tanks, all oil tanks and boiler drums.

HBsC1 is high-tensile brass casting; C.S is carbon steel. Types 11, 13 and 14 differ in the shape of the upper body. Other conditions on request.

Model code. RLG – gauge type – valve type – option. LP is the flat type for low pressure and temperature; HP is the armoured reflex type for high pressure and temperature. Options: N tank welding flange with check valve, W wide measuring (RLG-LP-14 only), T manual operating device, SR or SL scale board to the right or left of the sight.

Tubular type glass level gauge

Six RLG-TB series tubular glass level gauges
The RLG-TB range — A, B and C upper body types to JIS F 7211 and JIS F 7212

Model: RLG-TB series. A tubular glass column inside a K-type protector, built to the SOLAS 1981, 1983, 1996, 1997 and 1998 amendments. These gauges are for water tanks; they are not used on fuel oil tanks.

Two limits apply. A tubular gauge may be fitted to a fuel oil tank only where the tank capacity is under 1,000 litres, and to ships carrying the class notation “Coasting Service” or of less than 500 gross tons.

Protector is K-type on every model. The scale board is an optional item. Other conditions on request.

Marine float type level gauge

FLG-FA and FLG-FCG marine float type level gauges
FLG-FA to JIS F 7217A and the gas-tight FLG-FCG to JIS F 7217C

Model: FLG series, to Japanese Industrial Standard JIS F 7217, for all kinds of shipboard tanks. A float on a wire runs over a sheave and drives a pointer against a scale. The FLG-FCG type is gas tight. Easy to read and to install, and exact in indication.

Magnetic float type level gauge

Magnetic flag column cutaway and tank installations
How the flag column works, and typical horizontal and vertical tank installations

Models: FLG-MS side mounting and FLG-MT top mounting. A magnet-equipped float inside a pressure-tight column inverts coloured flags in an external indicator as the level rises, and inverts them back as it falls. The level is read at the junction between the coloured and the plain part of the column, from over thirty metres away.

Because the indicator is isolated from the liquid, the gauge is used where a sight glass is not acceptable — heavy fuel oil, diesel oil, lubricating oil, fresh water and process chemicals. The measured liquid stays inside the pressure-tight housing, and the indication needs no external power. Flags are polycarbonate for low temperature and ceramic for high temperature. The stainless steel housing is also available in CPVC, PVC and other materials.

Point switches and a continuous transmitter can be built onto the same column, which takes the gauge beyond a simple sight-glass replacement: up to six reed level switches for high, low or intermediate alarms, and a 4–20 mA transmitter for remote reading.

Self-powered content gauge

Self-powered content gauge principle and installation arrangement
The transmitter chamber, capillary and indicating gauge, and the installation arrangement

Model: HB-SPCG series. The weight of the liquid column in the tank is converted into gas pressure inside a transmitter chamber at the bottom of the tank. That pressure is carried up a capillary tube to an indicating gauge, so the reading is directly proportional to the head of liquid. There are no floats, nothing to power, and the indication is local.

One limitation is worth knowing before specifying it: over- or under-pressure in the tank cannot be compensated, so the gauge is for tanks that vent to atmosphere.

Used on diesel oil, lubricating oil, heavy fuel oil, solvents, gas oil, fresh water and all non-corrosive liquids.

Dial type float level gauge

Dial type float level gauge mechanism
Float wire, drum, main pulley and pointer wire inside the indicator head

Model: FL series. A float on a wire rises and falls with the level inside the tank. The wire turns a drum coupled to the main pulley on the main shaft, and the pulley drives a pointer wire that carries the level pointer across the dial. Different main pulley sizes suit different installation heights. The construction is simple and maintenance is easy.

Used on heavy fuel oil, diesel oil and lubricating oil tanks, water tanks and sewage collecting tanks. High and low alarm switches and a transmitter can be fitted as options.
