Bergaflex has been fitting sun and glare screens to ship bridges since the 1980s. The system is a roller blind in an aluminium cassette carrying a metallised polyester film: it takes out up to 90% of the sun’s heat and almost all the UV, cuts glare on the eyes and on the screens, and still leaves the watchkeeper a clear view out. We supply it in Singapore, measured and made to the window.
The cassettes

Three cassette sizes cover the range of bridge windows. Pick by the window opening; the profile depth tells you the clearance you need above the glass.
| Cassette | Profile / tube | Max window (w × h) | Drivers |
|---|---|---|---|
| 027/S | 39 × 47 mm, 25 mm tube | 1800 × 1500 mm | Cord reel or roller spring |
| 058/S | 52 × 62 mm, 32 mm tube | 2500 × 2500 mm | Roller spring |
| 069/S | 62 × 70 mm, 38 or 40 mm tube | 3600 × 3000 mm | Band reel, roller spring or motor |
Standard finish is white powder coat to RAL 9010U or natural anodised aluminium on the 027/S and 069/S; the 058/S is natural anodised as standard.
Retraction
Six ways to raise the blind, five of them manual. The IMPA codes are the ones to quote when ordering through a chandler.
| Mechanism | Operation | IMPA |
|---|---|---|
| Roller spring, cord | Manual | 150721 |
| Roller spring, band | Manual | 150721 |
| Roller spring, centre pull | Manual | 150721 |
| Cord reel, wire | Manual | 150722 |
| Cord or band reel | Manual | 150722 |

Shade films

The film is what does the work. Light transmission is how much daylight comes through; the shading coefficient is the fraction of solar energy that still ends up behind the screen, so lower is better. All of them stop essentially all the UV.
| Film | Light | Shading coeff. | Outside | Inside |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SG 2.4 | 2% | 0.10 | silver | grey |
| GGR | 6% | 0.30 | gold | grey |
| BSG 6 | 6% | 0.47 | bronze | grey |
| GSG | 9% | 0.50 | grey | grey |
| WhiteNoc | 0% | — | white | white |
| BeigeEx | 0% | — | white | beige |
| BlackEx | 0% | — | black | black |
UV transmission is under 1% on every film above. Shading coefficients are to ASHRAE test methods, with the film on the inside of 4 mm neutral glass — so treat them as a basis for comparison rather than a figure for your particular glazing. A film with a higher coefficient can still work well if the heat it absorbs is ventilated away, which is what happens on a self-ventilated window.
Laminating and safety films
Separate from the blind, film can be laminated to the glass itself. Depending on the film that gives reflective glass, light- and heat-absorbent glass, sanitary glass or protective glass.
| Laminating film | Light | Shading coeff. | Outside | Inside |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Silv Ext 16 | 16% | 0.18 | silver | silver |
| Silv 16 | 16% | 0.22 | silver | silver |
| Si/Bro Ext | 8% | 0.24 | bronze | silver |
| Bronze Silv | 8% | 0.28 | bronze | silver |
| Silv Ext 30 | 30% | 0.28 | silver | silver |
| Silv 30 | 30% | 0.34 | silver | silver |
| Sputter A | 36% | 0.51 | metal | metal |
Most films laminate to the inside of the glass. The Ext films are tested and approved for the outside as well, which matters on insulated glass — laminating the inside can void a still-valid warranty against glass breakage. Ask us before treating insulated units.
Safety films hold the glass together if it breaks. They run from a two-layer 0.1 mm film to an eight-layer 0.4 mm, all of them nearly clear, and there are three-layer versions that combine holding strength with solar control.
| Safety film | Thickness | Layers | Light |
|---|---|---|---|
| SA 4 | 0.1 mm | 2 | 93% |
| SA 8 | 0.2 mm | 4 | 93% |
| SA 11 | 0.3 mm | 5 | 93% |
| SA 12 | 0.3 mm | 6 | 92% |
| SA 16 | 0.4 mm | 8 | 91% |
| SA 5 SPS 35 | 0.125 mm | 3 | 50% |
| SA 5 PB | 0.125 mm | 3 | 50% |
| SA 5 SPS | 0.125 mm | 3 | 35% |
| SA 5 MS 50 | 0.125 mm | 3 | 20% |
UV transmission under 2% on the safety films.
Blackout
The same cassettes take blackout material instead of film, for chart rooms and cabins. Fabrics come in a range of colours and properties, and we can make the shade up in a fabric you specify.
Measuring and fitting
Blinds are made to the window, so the order starts with a measurement. Send the window sizes and the mechanism you want — or ask us to come and measure — and we will come back with a schedule and a quotation. Bergaflex handle measurement through to delivery, and we fit and service the installed screens locally.
